Constructive Alternatives to Criminalization
This Tuesday - May 15th, Greensboro City Council is set to vote on repealing it's current unconstitutional panhandling ("aggressive solicitation") ordinance. They have been advised by a letter from the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty, that the current law is unconstitutional and will likely result in costly litigation for the city.
In the hopes that Greensboro Might adopt common sense solutions that respect human rights, and actually reduce homelessness - rather than make it a crime, we have created a document entitled - "Fight Poverty, not the Poor: Constructive Alternatives to Criminalizing Poverty in Greensboro"
Our suggestions stress the need for housing because homelessness ends with a home, nothing else.
